Lucasfilm hires YouTube artist behind ‘Star Wars’ deepfake
A YouTuber, famous for making “deepfakes” of scenes from iconic film and television shows including “Star Wars”, has landed a job at Lucasfilm after wowing bosses at the Disney-owned company. The digital artist known only as “Shamook” is famous online for using cutting-edge technology to seamlessly map the faces of famous stars onto other actors’ bodies, AFP reports.

Decide WhatsApp privacy case in a month, says EU watchdog amid objections by peers
The EU EU privacy watchdog EDPB has given the Irish data protection agency a month to decide an important case involving Facebook’s WhatsApp, after the agency’s European peers complained that it was taking too long. Twitter shuts down after reopening offices over Delta Covid-19 fears; Google, Facebook too take action
Microblogging service Twitter has announced it is shutting its offices shortly after reopening them in the United States, after the surge in COVID-19 cases due to the Delta variant, which emerged in India but has quickly spread and now makes up over 80 percent of US cases. Meanwhile, on-campus employees of other big tech companies will have to be mandatorily vaccinated.

Joy for bug bounty hunters! Google has paid over $29 million in bounties so far to 2022 researchers
Google on Tuesday disclosed that it had paid out over $29 million in bug bounties to 2022 researchers as part of its vulnerability reward program (VRP) over a period of 11 years. The company also announced that it was revamping the program which is now called Bug Hunters. Google has paid $29,357,516 for 11,055 bugs that have been successfully identified on its apps and services.
