Mi Band 4, Galaxy A80 and Asus Ban || India Technology News

The official news today begin with deals on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro (you guys do this on purpose don’t you?) IF Xiaomi’s existing naming scheme wasn’t confusing enough, they have the Redmi Note 7, the Redmi Note 7S and the Redmi Note 7 Pro. The Redmi Note 7S (which you can buy for 11,500 INR) is the India version of the Redmi Note 7, but the actual Redmi Note 7 is retailing in India for 13,500 INR – but forget about both of those, the link in the description is for the Redmi Note 7 Pro (buy this) on Mi.com (which is rather insanely rolling out express 1 day delivery). The Phone has a Snapdragon 675 processor, 4 GB . + 64 GB RAM/Storage, only dual cameras (one of which is a 48 MP fake camera) and a 6.3 inch notched (the horror) display with a generous 4000 MaH battery.

What’s that, your head is spinning already? Watch ads on MiUI 10, I’m sure things will get cleared up. Else, let’s talk about the Samsung Galaxy A80. The phone has been listed on the Samsung India website with a Notify Me option, and is expected to launch in the next few days. The phone has a rotating triple camera setup (yes, I did say rotating) with a 6.7 inch Super AmOLED screen, 8 GB + 128 GB, and the Snapdragon 730 G processor (the G stands for Gary from Gary Explains). I wonder when we will reach the point when phone makers will say, “Lets stop creating solutions in search of a problem with the whole bezel-less things”. The phone is being touted as the rotating camera for everything live (it has a fake 48 MP camera, a depth sensor and an ultra wide) and is expected to be priced at 50,000 INR.

Speaking of solutions in search of a problem, everyone knows that the final solution to the whole bezel thing is embedding the selfie camera under the glass. Two companies within hours of each other showed off they could do that – Xiaomi and Oppo. On Wednesday Xiaomi’s Wang Xiang – SVP – took to twitter to put up a series of slides explaining how their under display camera works. WHile the solution is better than ridiculous pop-up selfie camera, rotating cameras and what-not, it still isn’t perfect, as you can make out the outline of the camera under the display. Knowing Xiaomi and their burning desire to be first at everything, they will probably launch a phone with the tech in a while, and it won’t work all that wel – but at least they will make way for a notch-less future.

We’ve got two more stories before we hit final verdict today. The first of these involve the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 (It’s remarkable the number of stories one company can churn out in a week). So if there’s one wearable that I actually recommend to people – it’s the Xiaomi Mi Band Series. Ever since Mi Band 1 – these have been far and away the best fitness focussed wearables you can get. The Mi Band 4 looks to be everything that’s predecessors were – and more. The band will launch on June 11th, is expected to cost Rs. 2000, feature a larger OLED display (the Mi Band 3 had a .78 inch display) with colour, and NFC (on top end) and enhanced heart rate monitoring this time around. Of course, this is all according to leaks on Chinese Microblogging wesite – so it’s basically true.

Final verdict, final story – in a bizarre case, the Delhi High Court has ruled in the case of Telecare Network (who?) vs Asus, that the trademarks of Zen (as in ZenFone, Zenbook and basically everything that Asus makes – they slap a Zen branding on it) satisfy the triple test under the Trademark Act of 1999 and belong to Telecare Network, and so Asus is restrained from selling the Zen branded stuff in India. Asus has responded to say that they are working with the court (cough) and that sales remain unchanged.

So, I shoot my videos on a 6k sensor, downsampled to 4k, edited and then uploaded to YouTube in the highest quality I can manage. But I daresay, no one watches it in that quality. Samsung has unveiled the world’s first 8k QLED TV in India for 10 lakhs. That’s just about it. That price was for the 75 inch – and the 98 inch costs 60 lakhs. You can pick yours today at Samsung’s website.
