Car crashes more dangerous than coronavirus: Tesla CEO Elon Musk – Latest News

NEW DELHI: Tesla and SpaceX CEO and tech billionaire Elon Musk thinks that the risk of death from coronavirus infection is less than the risk of dying in a car accident. As per a report by BuzzFeed News, Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently wrote to SpaceX employees an e-mail in which he said: “As a basis for comparison, the risk of death from C19 is *vastly* less than the risk of death from driving your car home.” He went on to add: “There are about 36 thousand automotive deaths per deaths [sic], as compared to 36 so far this year for C19.” The company-wide email was reportedly sent to the employees in the wee hours on Friday.

In the email, he reportedly said that based on all the evidence he had seen about COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, “suggests that this is *not* within the top 100 health risks in the United States.” The Tesla CEO had earlier made a coronavirus-related tweet in which he had said: “The coronavirus panic is dumb.” SpaceX employees are currently working at the company’s California headquarters at Hawthorne and Tesla offices and factories have remained open, as per the BuzzFeed report.

Coronavirus has spread to more than 100 countries in the world, with over 1 million people testing positive for the infection. There have been over 4,000 deaths worldwide and travel, airline and tourism industries have taken a massive hit. Many organisations and companies across the world have advised their employees to work from home as a precautionary measure. Travel to countries like China, South Korea, Iran and Italy is strictly being discouraged on account of a high chance of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in these countries. The World Health Organisation recently declared the coronavirus outbreak as a pandemic.
