With most of the world in lockdown, the vast majority of restaurants are closed. However, some are still offering takeout and home deliveries, which can now be highlighted in the latest version of Google Maps. Users can see what is available close to their homes with two new shortcut buttons in the web mapping service.
In its latest update, Google Maps features two new buttons on its main screen, which enable users to see restaurants providing takeout and home delivery services in their immediate area.
Pressing on one of the buttons will show a map and a detailed list of all of the restaurants concerned, which are presented in order of proximity.
However, users should bear in mind that the new shortcuts only allow them to locate and identify restaurants. Google Maps does not yet feature integration with delivery services such as Uber Eats, which would allow users to directly order food from within the application. However, it is very simple to contact restaurants from the listings and place an order directly.
The new feature, which should be particularly useful at the moment, is already available in the United States, Canada and France. A more global roll-out is expected in the near future. – AFP Relaxnews
